  • To enable disabled people to gain independence

  • To reduce isolation for disabled people and their carers
  • To enable disabled people to have a voice locally, regionally and nationally and promote their right to be involved in decision-making about their lives.
  • To raise awareness about the barriers to inclusion disabled people face especially with regard to health, housing, transport, employment, education

As a Charity we seek to achieve our aims by:

  • Providing Advocacy and Information
  • Supporting disabled adults and their carers to maximise their income
  • Providing Employability Support
  • Providing Volunteering Opportunities
  • Setting up set up initiatives to lessen the isolation of disabled people and their carers
  • Promoting the right of disabled people to be involved in decision-making about their lives and about what goes on in their community.
  • Training ourselves and others about disability issues
  • Disabled people don’t want to be segregated from society so Disability Can Do is working to provide services that will enable them to lead fully inclusive lives.

Job Role:

This role provides an opportunity to deliver an exciting project ‘Industrial Heritage through the lens of disability’ this will research the local industrial heritage and how people with a disability were treated and engaged.

The post holder will coordinate and support a group of disabled people to undertake this work; carrying our primary and secondary research, interpret findings and produce and deliver exhibitions / presentations of the findings.

A genuine interest in the use of multimedia techniques to present information (such as digital story telling), industrial heritage and a commitment to working with disabled people is essential.

Job Role:

We are looking for a dedicated, pro-active individual who can lead our existing training team, developing and delivering new projects and supporting the organisation towards sustainability.  We are looking for someone who can think outside of the box, with a track record of securing funding and delivering projects in partnership, with a good understanding of social enterprise.

Current projects support disabled adults into employment, however training will be widened to include wider personal and skills development to disadvantaged people and corporate training packages.

Whilst projects are delivered to targets, we are looking for an individual who can add real value to our service delivery and wants the best for the individuals the service supports.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

30 hours per week - £29,250 pro rata

Initial 12 month contract

Whilst we hope to secure funding to entend this contract, this has not been confirmed and so the initial contract will be for 12 months

   The successful applicant will be passionate about helping people, innovative, entrepreneurial and a transformational leader. They will have the drive and management skills to deliver excellent services and generate the new enterprise income essential to the sustainability of the organisation.

 

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the successful applicant will hold an instrumental role in helping us achieve our organisational goals. They will be tasked with increasing our reach, and advancing our service provision to meet the needs of disabled adults and carers living within the community.

 

The successful applicant will be required to manage day-to-day operations and will be accountable for the continued provision of high quality support services. The applicant will be expected to provide effective and inspirational leadership to the staff team, competently manage various financial budgets, and maintain and broker successful relationships with both current and future funders/stakeholders.

DISABILITY FORUM OPEN TO EVERYONE

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ATTENDING A DISABILITY FORUM?

The Caerphilly Disability Forum is “Open” to everyone facing disabling barriers in their lives, enabling people to share their experiences with other people in the same situation as themselves. It provides an opportunity to share information, advice and peer support around living independently and improving their wellbeing.

Most importantly it gives people the space to talk about issues which are affecting them on a day to day basis in their community for example Housing, Access, lack of Council funding for local projects, anti-social behaviour, transport issues, the choice is yours!
