Books, Bikes and bag packing! - Fundraising with Sainsburys' Pontllanfraith

Thursday 6 August 2015

Since becoming their designated charity of the year, Disability Can Do has worked in close partnership with Sainsbury's Pontllanfraith to raise vital funds for modifications to our premises and increase ease of access for service users who are in use of walking aids. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and customers of the store who generously donated during our recent fundraising events.

Over the course of a rather mad weekend (31st-2nd August), Sainsburys has hosted book selling scheme, a bag packing event and a static bike race featuring none other than Paralympian Hollie Arnold!

Known more for competing in the London 2012 Olympics as a competitor in the javelin, Hollie was thrown out of her comfort zone and into another discipline, helping staff complete a gruelling 150 mile static bike marathon.

So far the amount raised has totalled an amazing £1067!

Thank you Sainsburys, keep up the great work!

Can Do BEATS The Twmbarlwm Trek

Can Do takes on The Twmbarlwm Ridgeway Walk

The Can Do team would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to Jonathan Curtis and his team of volunteers for completing the grueling 21 mile Twmbarlwm walk.

The "Monster of a route" covers the 3 of the highest points in the county, Twmbarlwm (419m), Mynydd Machen (362m) and Mynydd Islwyn (312m)

After being unable to complete the walk at the official event organised by the Caerphilly Challenge Series on May 9th due to a medical emergency, Jonathan remained  determined to complete the walk and raise vital funds for the organisation.

In light of this unfortunate incident, Jonathan rescheduled the walk to take place once fit and well. We are proud to announce that on Saturday 30th May Jonathan did just that, and successfully completed the full 21 miles in little under 12 hours.

Jonathan and Volunteers at the peak of Twmbarlwn

Congratulations Jonathan on your perseverance and dedication to your commitment, we are proud to call you part of our trustee board and volunteer team.

Special thanks to

Joanne Jones-Downing
